It also serves as an excellent handling aid, allowing you to stop your dog at distance, indicate a left or right cast, and use a clear overhead signal to send them accurately in the required direction.

For longer retrieves, the flag can be raised again during the dog’s run to reinforce the correct line and maintain confidence over distance.
